The renowned Van Volxem winery, nestled in the rolling hills of the Saar River and surrounded by nutrient-rich slate soils that produce some of Germany's finest wines, hides a very special retreat, the custom-built KLAFS DOME sauna, created for a winemaker with the highest standards of craftsmanship and aesthetics. Overlooking the adjacent pool and vineyards, this exclusive sauna embodies a new dimension of well-being and reflects the spirit of the winery—its dedication to quality and the joy of enjoyment.
For his private sauna at the Van Volxem winery, the client placed particular emphasis on a custom design that reflects precision and craftsmanship, as well as comfort and exclusive design. Combining modernity with the preservation of the historic property, the result is an exclusive retreat that elegantly integrates into the overall concept.
Sauna DOME in distinctive design
The client's dream was an open fireplace, a central element in the sauna that would create a "campfire atmosphere." With the premium DOME sauna, KLAFS was able to perfectly realize this idea. The heart of the sauna is the MAJUS infusion heater, positioned in the centre of the room, radiating an almost meditative warmth. The striking cladding, made of numerous, organically curved slats, complements the distinctive design, characterized by flowing shapes.
Furthermore, an impressive domed roof made of warm, naturally lustrous copper deliberately sets the heater in the spotlight. This is not only an extraordinary detail due to its design and symbolic significance; the material and sophisticated lighting concept also make the combination of heater, heater cladding, and dome a unique eye-catcher.
The loungers and benches, with their softly rounded corners and edges, echo the sauna’s wave-inspired design language, reinforcing its distinctive and sophisticated aesthetic. Thanks to bespoke adaptations and exclusive design details, the final result surpassed the client’s expectations.
Breathtaking outdoor views
Another key request from the client was to maintain an unobstructed view of the adjacent fitness area and pool, despite his height of over 6 foot. To achieve this, the sauna was designed with millimetre precision and custom-built using only the highest quality materials. Expansive double-glazed windows not only frame breathtaking outdoor views but also enhance energy efficiency. The wall cladding, crafted from certified hemlock veneer panels, reinforces the facility’s distinctive character, radiating warmth and creating a soothing atmosphere. State-of-the-art technical features, including the KLAFS control system, ensure effortless operation and ultimate convenience.
