A picturesque mountain retreat with a home sauna

When building their holiday home, the clients planned a generously sized wellness and fitness area. The result is an impressive, clearly structured ensemble with a KLAFS sauna and steam bath as its focal point.

Modern, clean design in earthy tones

The landscape of the Upper Engadine, with its mountains, larch forests, and lakes, has long inspired great minds such as Friedrich Nietzsche and Thomas Mann, and served as the muse for painter Giovanni Segantini’s masterpiece Alpentriptych. The client envisioned “a modern, clean design in earth tones,” and KLAFS brought this to life: brown, grey, and blue tones define the look, creating a true retreat for the family.

Idea and concept

When designing the space, the family placed great importance on using only premium materials. The AURA sauna takes centre stage in the 70 sqm wellness and fitness area, standing freely in the room with two expansive glass fronts. Seamless flooring, mosaic tiles in soft blue-grey tones, wrap-around glazing and an integrated steam fireplace complete the sophisticated design.

The Silvaplana Valley, located at an altitude of 1,800 meters, once a magnet for intellectual giants such as Nietzsche and Thomas Mann, served as the backdrop for the building family's vacation home.
The builders placed great importance on clearly separating the sauna, steam bath, fitness, and relaxation areas. The AURA sauna, as the central element, impresses with its clean lines, American walnut, and LED lighting.
The KLAFS solid steam bath impresses with rounded benches and a generous L-shaped seating area. The corner glazing offers a breathtaking view of the sauna and fitness area.
The integration into the wet area with seamless flooring creates a clean transition, while mosaic tiles in blue-gray tones provide a striking look.
