Savoy Hotel

Savoy Hotel

Köln, Germany

Hotel Savoy is far more than just a place to stay – this sanctuary on Turiner Street in Cologne has long been a favourite among film and television personalities. They return time and again for its unique atmosphere, luxurious interiors, and elegant spa area. Following water damage, the spa was fully renovated by KLAFS and now shines in renewed splendour, offering a captivating blend of art and wellness – a true haven of relaxation for guests. During the redesign, owner Gisela Ragge chose a luxurious, artistically inspired concept that perfectly complements the hotel’s distinctive character.

IDEA & CONCEPTION

Gisela Ragge took over the hotel 40 years ago, and her daughter Daniela Ragge has also been working for the business for about 20 years – today as General Manager. Together, they have transformed the Hotel Savoy into a place that captivates with its opulent interiors and unique atmosphere, offering its guests a constant stream of new and fascinating experiences. The hotel doesn't follow a rigid concept but rather sees itself as a place of inspiration and change.

"We deliberately break styles," explains Gisela Ragge. "Our goal is to constantly redefine ourselves and continually offer our guests new experiences."

This harmony between art and relaxation is immediately felt in the spa area. From the moment guests enter, they experience a unique atmosphere where design and tranquillity blend seamlessly. The saunas and steam bath, extensively renovated by KLAFS following water damage, now radiate this same sense of calm and sophistication.

Bold colours are used throughout the spa and public areas of the hotel to enhance its luxurious, opulent atmosphere. Rich tones of caramel, plum, and petrol set the scene, stylishly complemented by golden palm fronds and black upholstery. Adding to the artistic ambience, striking works by Andreas Reimann – an artist whose portfolio includes commissions for stars such as Elton John, David Bowie, and Tina Turner – adorn the walls and elevate the space with a touch of glamour.

Guests at the Hotel Savoy can experience a unique microcosm of relaxation for body and mind, leaving everyday life behind and immersing themselves in a world of inspiration and relaxation.

IMPLEMENTATION & DIMENSION

The spa area offers two sauna cabins and a steam bath, each with a unique design and the highest level of comfort. The classic Finnish sauna (3.0 x 3.50 m) offers the popular hot temperatures (85-90°C), while the SANARIUM®-equipped bio sauna (2.50 x 3.50 m) offers mild temperatures (55-60°C) and higher humidity (40-50%) for a gentler sauna experience that is particularly gentle and non-irritating.

Both cabins feature high-quality hemlock panels and the all-new FINO lounge furniture made of lightweight abachi wood with fine slats, which offers a modern, elegant look and the highest level of comfort.

KLAFS also implemented the customised design concept for the 1.90 x 2.40 m steam bath  according to the client's vision: The steam bath, with bathing temperatures of approximately 42 to 45 °C, features innovative printed glass walls, creating an exceptional atmosphere. Asian elements in a minimalist yet striking style characterise the appearance and ensure that the steam bath blends harmoniously with the existing design of the entire spa.

Fast, reliable support: Hotel Savoy has long trusted KLAFS’s expertise, and following recent water damage, the hotel once again turned to the sauna specialist to renovate and redesign its spa.

"The quality of KLAFS products has proven itself for us," explains Gisela Ragge. "We wanted to create a premium area that meets our high standards, and KLAFS was the perfect partner for such a special project."

The collaboration was smooth and dependable, even under pressure. “Michael Bauer, Head of Key Account Management at KLAFS, particularly supported us energetically and ensured that the renovation of the spa area progressed quickly and efficiently.”
The result speaks for itself: guests are drawn to the spa’s distinctive atmosphere and refined aesthetic, often noticing the transformation on return visits.  "The response has been very positive," says a delighted Gisela Ragge.
